11th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition
Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera 6-11 June 2022

Long awaited, the finals of the 11th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition took place on the 11th of June at the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera. The thrilling concert resulted in the selection of the winners of this year's Competition. 12 finalists performed Polish arias and arias from the world repertoire, accompanied by the orchestra of the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera under the baton of maestro Andriy Yurkevych.

The evening was a celebration of the patron of the Competition, Stanisław Moniuszko. The music from Stanisław Moniuszko's Halka resonated in particular, because as many as 6 participants presented arias from this opera - Dean Murphy (USA) performed Janusz’s recitative and aria Qual sorte o cielo!… Per chè nell’ ore (Skąd tu przybyła… Czemuż mnie w chwilach) in Italian and Xiaomeng Zhang (China) in Polish, Nombulelo Yende (South Africa) and Juliana Grigoryan (Armenia) sang Halka’s recitative and aria Ha! Dzieciątko nam umiera… O mój maleńki, Darija Auguštan (Croatia) and Eliza Boom (New Zealand) Halka’s recitative and aria O jakżebym klęczeć… Gdyby rannym słonkiem, and Rafael Alejandro Del Angel Garcia (Mexico) Jontek’s aria Szumią jodły na gór szczycie from the 4th act of Halka. Moniuszko's pieces were also performed by Inna Fedorii (Ukraine), Zuzanna Nalewajek (Poland) and Volodymyr Tyshkov (Ukraine). There were also outstanding interpretations of works from the world repertoire - the soloists sang arias from operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giacomo Puccini.

Waiting for the results was adorned with a real treat - recital of the winners of the 9th Moniuszko Competition - countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński (2nd prize in the male voices category) and pianist Michał Biel (prize for an outstanding young pianist). The impressive stage of the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera has suddenly become an extremely intimate space as the duo performed songs by Polish composers, which are part of the repertoire of their album Farewells, released in May 2022.
